Thalassemia Awareness Seminar Held at Punjab Assembly on World Thalassemia Day

Sundas Foundation organized a special Thalassemia Awareness Seminar at the Punjab Assembly on the occasion of World Thalassemia Day. Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan attended as the Chief Guest and highlighted the importance of awareness, prevention, and mandatory thalassemia screening before marriage.
Lahore: On the occasion of World Thalassemia Day, a special awareness seminar was organized at the Punjab Assembly under the auspices of Sundas Foundation. Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan attended the seminar as the Chief Guest. Detailed discussions were held regarding thalassemia prevention, better care for patients, and creating public awareness about the disease.
The event was attended by the Founder and President of Sundas Foundation Muhammad Yaseen Khan, Director Khalid Abbas Dar, Members of the Assembly, social personalities, doctors and individuals from different walks of life.
Addressing the seminar, Founder and President of Sundas Foundation Muhammad Yasin Khan said that the legislation introduced by the Punjab Assembly to make thalassemia testing mandatory before marriage is a historic step that will significantly help reduce the number of children born with thalassemia in the future. He stated that Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan played a vital role in the approval of this legislation, while the Punjab Assembly unanimously supported the law.
He further said that thalassemia prevention is possible through timely diagnosis and awareness, and that Sundas Foundation has been providing free treatment and blood facilities to patients suffering from blood diseases for many years.
On this occasion, Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan appreciated the services of Sundas Foundation and said that the foundation has been serving humanity for the past three decades and continues to provide treatment to thousands of thalassemia patients. He added that Sundas Foundation centers established across the country, including Lahore, are providing modern and quality healthcare facilities to patients coming from remote areas.
The Speaker Punjab Assembly assured that the government and Punjab Assembly will continue extending full support to Sundas Foundation in the future to effectively combat diseases like thalassemia.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Director Sundas Foundation Khalid Abbas Dar thanked the Speaker Punjab Assembly, guests and participants, emphasizing that collective awareness and precautionary measures are extremely important for the prevention of thalassemia. He said that people should ensure thalassemia testing before marriage to protect future generations from this disease.
During the seminar, awareness material regarding thalassemia was also distributed, while participants appreciated the legislation and social awareness initiatives aimed at preventing the disease.
