Laylatul Qadr is a night in which the Holy Quran was first revealed completely on Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). Allah (SWT) explains the importance of the night of power in the Holy Quran:
Indeed, it is We Who sent this Quran down on the Night of Glory. And what will make you realize what the Night of Glory is? The Night of Glory is better than a thousand months. That night the angels and the holy spirit descend, by the permission of their Lord, for every decreed matter. It is all peace until the break of dawn. (97:1-5)
When it comes to finding out when the night of glory appears in Ramadan, Hazrat Aisha Said:
"Allah's Messenger used to practice Itikaf in the last ten nights of Ramadan and used to say, "Look for the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan." (Sahi Al Bukhari, Book 32, Hadith 6).
Signs of Layatul Qadr?
Indeed, Allah knows when the Laylatul Qadr occurs. However, Allah’s Prophet said, find the night in the last ten nights of Ramadan. Some signs indicated by the Prophet, highlighting whether the night is Laylatul Qadr.
Hazrat Ubayy R.A said that the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) narrated that the Sun, following the Layalatul Qadr, appears without rays:
“The Prophet of Allah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “On the morning following Laylatul-Qadr, the sun rises without any rays, as if it were a brass dish, until it rises up.” (Muslim)
Hazrat Ibn e Abbas narrates another sign of Laylatul Qadr in the light of a Hadith that the night of glory (Laylatu Qadr) seems calm and pleasant.
“The Messenger of Allah (Peace Be Upon Him), said: “Laylatul-Qadr is calm and pleasant, neither hot nor cold, the sun rises on its morning being feeble and red.” (Ibn Khuzaimah)
Other signs of Lyalatul Qadr highlighted by scholars include: it shows a sense of tranquility and a moderate temperature.
The Significance of Laylatul Qadr
This night comes with amazing benefits and rewards for Muslims. It is said that do not waste this night and do good deeds, including offering prayers, reciting the Holy Quran, and giving Sadaqah. Here are some remarkable rewards indicated by scholars:
a) Multiple rewards: On the night of Laylatul Qadr, your rewards are multiplied. Allah (SWT) said that the night, Laylatul Qadr, is greater than thousands of months.
b) A way to seek Allah’s forgiveness: This night is a way to seek Allah’s forgiveness. It is advised to do more Tawbah from Allah on this night.
c) Your duas are answered: It is said that your duas are answered on this night. So, ask Allah for all of your Hajat or needs you are looking for.
When is Laylatul Qadr 2026?
The Prophet of Allah said, find Laylatul Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan. It is said that the Laylatul Qadr appears on odd nights of the last Ashrah of Ramadan. Based on the ongoing days and the Ramadan 2026 calendar, the following are the odd nights:
a) 9th March 2026 (21st night)
b) 11th March 2026 (23rd night)
c) 13th March 2026 (25th night)
d) 15th March 2026 (27th night)
e) 17th March 2026 (29th night)
You must seek Allah’s forgiveness on these nights. However, many Muslims prepare for the 27th night of Ramadan and treat it as Laylatul Qadr. The 27th night will appear of 15th of March, 2026. On this night, almost all Masajid complete the Traweeh Prayer and offer Khatam Al Quran.
What to do on Laylatul Qadr?
Laylatul Qadr is a night of glory and blessings. Everyone seeks Allah’s forgiveness on this night. However, Islamic scholars suggest doing good deeds on this night as it increases your faith and brings barakah or blessings.
a) Take a vacation for Allah: We sometimes take vacations from our jobs and responsibilities to spend leisure time. Similarly, take a vacation for Allah on this night and spend your time purely for the cause of Allah. Try not to be involved in worldly pursuits and do it only when these are necessary.
b) Do Itkaf: If possible for you, then take part in the Itkaf activity for Laylatul Qadr or the 27th night of Ramadan. Doing Itkaf is the best way to draw Allah’s closeness and seek his forgiveness.
c) Make this special dua: Many scholars suggest making a special dua on Laylatul Qadr, or the 27th night of Ramadan, which is brought from a Hadith. Hazrat Aisha (R.A) Said:
"I asked the Messenger of Allah: "O Messenger of Allah, if I know what night is the night of Qadr, what should I say during it?' He said: 'Say: O Allah, You are pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me." (Book 5, Hadith 57).
The Arabic translation of this dua is: “Allahumma innaka `afuwwun tuhibbul `afwa fa`fu `annee.”
d) Recite the holy Quran: On the night of Laylatul Qadr, we must recite the Holy Quran as much as we can. If possible, try to recite with translation, as it helps you understand the messages of Allah.
e) Offer traweeh and voluntary prayers: You must offer Traweeh on this night and other voluntary prayers as Salat ul Khair, Salat ul Tasbeeh, and other Nawafils, only to seek the pleasure of Allah.
f) Attend Dua of Khatam Al Quran: On this night, almost all Masajid complete the Traweeh and offer Khatam al Quran. You must attend the dua of this Khatam to get more blessings and forgiveness.
g) Do Sehri with your family and friends: After doing prayers and other good deeds, you must do Sehri with your family members and friends in the Masjid and fast for the next day.
